Zahir al-Din Muhammad Babur Shah (1526–30), prince and founder of the Mughal dynasty in India, is born.

The Mughal emperor Akbar was proclaimed Humayun's successor at Kalanur in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab at the age of twelve. Babur's grandson Akbar (1542–1605), became the third Mughal emperor at the age of 13. He established Islam as the state religion and declared himself a neutral ruler of Hindus and Muslims. He additionally supported craftsmanship, culture and strict resilience.

Devendra Lal was born in Varanasi. He conducted extensive research on lunar rock meteorites and material from the ocean floor brought up by the Apollo and Luna missions. He also developed techniques for understanding post-event events in the Solar System from cosmic ray "signatures". One of his most important discoveries was that the intensity of cosmic rays in the past few million years was about the same as it is today. He was a geophysicist attached to the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad.
