Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay (Chattopadhyay), noted novelist, "father of modern Indian fiction" and author of the national anthem 'Bande Mataram', was born in Katalpara near Naihati in West Bengal. 'Anandmath' and 'Kapal Kundala' are some of his compositions. He was among the first two Bengali graduates.
