The Asiatic Registration Bill was viewed by Gandhi as unfair and discriminatory against the large Chinese and Indian populations. However, the government has expressed confidence that the ordinance is popular. Sir Gilbert Parker, a Conservative member of Parliament, said, "More than 90 percent of white people fully approve of it."
