Brave freedom fighter Babu Jagjivan Ram was born in Chandwa village of Bhojpur, Bihar. He held several prestigious ministerial posts such as Minister of Communications (1952–56), Minister of Railways (1956–62), Minister of Food and Agriculture (1967–70) and Minister of Defense (1970–74). After 1977, he became Deputy Prime Minister (Defence) during Janata rule. After this he founded the Congress (J).
