The famous philosopher and theosophist Annie Besant was born in London.

The first postage stamps valid for postage across India were sold in October 1854 with four values: 1/2 anna [colour: blue], 1 anna [colour: red], 2 anna [colour: green] and 4 anna [colour]: green. ] : caste and blue].
These stamps bear the youthful image of Queen Victoria, all four values were designed and printed in Calcutta and were issued without perforation or gluing. All but the 2 annas greens were lithographed, which were produced by typography from copper cliches or electrotype plates. The 4 anna stamp was one of the first two-colour stamps in the world, preceded only by the Basel Dove, a handsome local issue.
