Indian plant physicist and physicist Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose dies of a heart attack. He examined the properties of exceptionally short radio waves, remote telecommunication, and radiation-actuated exhaustion in inorganic materials. His physiological work included comparative measurement of plant responses to stress. His invention of highly sensitive instruments for detecting the subtle responses of living organisms to external stimuli enabled him to anticipate the similarities between animal and plant tissues noted by later biophysicists. In 1901, he proved that "plants and animals have the same sense of touch". He founded the Bose Research Institute in Calcutta and wrote the world famous books "Responses in Living and Non-Living" (1902) and "Nervous Mechanisms of Plants" (1926).
