The first aerial victory was when a MiG-21FL of No. 47 Squadron shot down a PAF F-104 over the Gulf of Kutch and it was on 17 December, when a MiG-21FL of No. 29 Squadron shot down a PAF F-104. Escorting the 21FL HF-24 Maruts, an F-104 was intercepted and shot down in a gun-missile collision near Uttarlai in the Rajasthan desert, while a third F-104 on an infiltration mission was shot down by another MiG of No. 29 Squadron.
