Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore established the first dance school called "Kala Bhavan" at Santiniketan near Bolpur and the "Barhamacharya Ashram", the parent of Visva Bharati University. It was officially opened on 22 December.

The first aerial victory was when a MiG-21FL of No. 47 Squadron shot down a PAF F-104 over the Gulf of Kutch and it was on 17 December, when a MiG-21FL of No. 29 Squadron shot down a PAF F-104. Escorting the 21FL HF-24 Maruts, an F-104 was intercepted and shot down in a gun-missile collision near Uttarlai in the Rajasthan desert, while a third F-104 on an infiltration mission was shot down by another MiG of No. 29 Squadron.
