Non-cooperation movement started under the leadership of Gandhiji against Lord Chelmsford. His strategy of non-cooperation and non-violence against the Christian British rulers of India was to 'stand for truth'. Later, she took a pledge to wear only 'dhoti' to maintain domestic cotton and simplicity, which later led to the Trinomial movement. It started with the abandonment of honorific titles such as 'Sir' given by the British. After this, gatherings, elections and other government activities were boycotted. Foreign clothes were burnt and khadi became a symbol of freedom. Despite the shootings and arrests, the movement achieved great success. By the end of 1921, all important national leaders except Gandhiji were in jail along with 3000 others. However, in February 1922, violence broke out in Chowrichawra in Uttar Pradesh and Gandhi withdrew the movement. He was jailed and the movement ended.
