The history of Nainital is also recorded in ancient India. In the Manas section of the Skanda Purana, the Nainital lake is called Tri-Rishi-Sarovar, which alludes to the story of three sages (or sages), Atri, Pulastya and Pulaha, who dug a large pit in Nainital when they could not find Was. Water. In place of the present lake (sarovar = lake), this sacred lake of Tibet is filled with the water of Manasarovar. According to legend, a dip in Naini Lake, "Lower Manasarovar", is equivalent to a dip in the Great Lake.
It is also believed that the eyes (or nine) of Sati fell in Naini Lake, one of the 64 Shaktipeeths, which is called Naini-tal or the lake of eyes. Goddess Shakti is worshiped in the Naina Devi temple on the northern bank of the present lake.
