With all the panache of the British Empire, a conference of Indian and British leaders was convened in London to discuss dominion status for India. King George V, surrounded by turbaned monarchs, convened the round table in the Royal Gallery of the House of Lords. Notably absent was the leader of the nationalist movement, Mahatma Gandhi. The conference saw the disintegration of the Indian caste system as Brahmins dealt with the spokesmen of the "untouchables".
